Change of heart

Part 15- Walter

I walked behind him into the bedroom, my mind still lost in thoughts of the both of them in high school. As I entered the bedroom, I saw her standing next to the bed trying to make her way out, hand still clenched near her abdomen as though each step pained her.

Walter put Saphira in her cot and made his way to her side, he offered his arm for support and the other arm wrapped itself around her waist.

“Baby, you’ve got to rest.”

“Walter, please, I can’t just lay in bed all day.”

He looked at her pleadingly, his eyes softly begging her to stay in bed so he wouldn’t have to see her wince, see her in pain. But Zelina refused to budge.

“Walter” she sighed, placing her hand on his face and softly caressing his cheek with her thumb. “You’ve got to let me go.”

“No. Never.”

“Walter, hun. Please.” she pled.

But Walter refused to listen, his clutch on her growing tighter. Turning himself slowly, so that her body would turn as well.

She pushed the other way, struggling to keep herself on her feet.

“Zelina, please stop torturing yourself. I’ll get you whatever you need, just stay in bed for now. Let the pain pass at least.”

“Walter, I’m fine” she croaked while wincing in pain.

“Don’t lie to me. I can see you’re in pain.”

“NO! Zelina, you are getting back in bed.”

Sensing that she could fight him no longer, she began leaning on him as he led her back to the bed.

“Yes, baby.”

“Dance with me.”

“Zelina, now is not the time.”

“No, dance with me now.” And with that, she put all her force in pushing herself back and therefore stopping him from moving her.

“Zelina” he sighed as he looked back at her. But as soon as he did, he was a goner. She looked at him as though dancing with him would procure a miracle and make her perfectly fine yet again. He gave in and removed his arms from around her.

Walking to get his phone off the bed and soon soft strums of a guitar could be heard playing. He walked back to her and placed one arm on her waist and held her hand with the other. She placed her head on this chest and slowly began to move side to side, turning in one spot.

Cause if the whole world was watching, I’d still dance with you. Drive highways and byways to be next to you.

He spun her around and a laugh escaped her, a giddy smile on her face, he pulled her back into him, back to his chest. Continuing the side to side step, while turning around.

Over and over, the only truth, everything comes back to you.

With that he spun her yet again, this time bringing them face to face. With her arms around his neck, she stood on her tip toes before placing her lips on his for a small peck.

He bent down and took her legs into his arm and the other held her abdomen and he lay her back on the bed.

“I love you, Zelina.” And with that, he kissed her on the forehead.

“I love you too, hun.” she replied with a smile and red tinted cheeks.

I walked out as he began to stroke her hair, while she clutched onto him like a soft toy.
